Nebraska football has landed two commitments in the past week and another blue-chip recruit is set to visit this week too.
There is never a second to rest on the recruiting trail and thankfully, Matt Rhule and his Nebraska football coaching staff take that to heart.
The Huskers have landed two commitments in the past week — from Willis McGahee IV and also Ian Flynt. But the work continues as Nebraska football tries to build its 2024 class.
Five commitments is a solid start, however, just one of them is ranked as a four-star according to the 247 sports composite rankings. That ratio needs to improve and one player that could help with that is four-star wideout Michael Turner out of Louisiana.
Turner is listed as a four-star according to the On3 industry rankings. On3 rates him as a three-star recruit while the 247 Sports rankings for 2024 (not the composite) have him as the 22nd-best wide receiver. Rivals and ESPN don’t have him ranked, which is why he shows up unrated in the composite rankings (at least for now).
Yet, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound wideout is a player. He caught 25 passes for 619 yards and six touchdowns as a junior in high school. He also notched an interception and 29 tackles. This spring, Turner has posted numerous sub-11 second times in the 100-meter dash including a 10.59. He also high jumped 6-0.
Florida, LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, and a number of other programs are in the mix for Turner, however, Nebraska football has recently grabbed a slight lead via the On3 prediciton machine.
Nebraska football hosting Michael Turner for a visit
Turner is going to take an unofficial visit to Nebraska this weekend, which is one reason why the Huskers are trending up in the prediction machine. Florida also had Turner on campus recently. The Gators have offered but LSU hasn’t and that’s one thing that could change this recruitment.
LSU hosted Turner for its spring game and he’s visiting again this week before coming to Nebraska. We’ll see if the offer finally comes but it feels like it should, otherwise, why keep bringing him back for visits?
The Tigers could be tough to overcome, but Nebraska hasn’t been waffling either. Evan Cooper has built a strong relationship with Turner, along with Garret McGuire according to On3.com.
We should have a better idea of where things stand with Turner after this weekend, but in terms of recruits in the 2024 class, he’s another name Nebraska football fans need to know.
