Nebraska football could be adding a versatile wide receiver weapon to the 2023 recruiting class.

You have to be impressed with the effort Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule has been putting in on the recruiting trail. The Huskers were on the road to visit Demitrius Bell a four-star recruit in the 2023 class.

Bell is a 6-foot, 175-pound wide receiver and he was committed to Michigan State previously before de-committing back in August. Rhule tweeted some emojis on Monday and I couldn’t figure out what they meant.

A picture posted later on social media showed what was up. Rhule, Evan Cooper, and other Nebraska football coaches were doing an in-home visit with Bell, who is expected to take an official visit this weekend.

According to Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports, Bell is going to announce his commitment on Feb. 2. Kentucky is in the mix and Alabama is too. I don’t know how hard the Crimson Tide is pushing and from what Bell told Wiltfong, Bell is forming a strong connection with Rhule.

And it looks like Nebraska is trending towards a commitment.

Nebraska football could be adding to a WR room

The wide receiver room seemed a little short on bodies earlier this week. However, Zavier Betts has decided to return to the program and Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda has also withdrawn his name from the transfer portal.

I’ve already made my feelings known on Betts. He has a lot of work to do to get back to where he was, but he’s a super-talented player and I don’t see much downside in giving him another opportunity. If he’s 100 percent invested, he could be a starter.

Garcia-Castaneda had over 100 yards receiving in the first game of the season against Northwestern, but he fell down the depth chart and announced he was leaving before the season was over. However, it’s good to have him back in the fold. He caught 47 passes for 759 yards and five touchdowns.

Nebraska football needed proven production at the position and Garcia-Castaneda can provide that. Adding Bell to the wide receiver room would be huge too and not just for next season.

When you dig into his stats, Bell rushed for 274 yards and two touchdowns too. That’s the kind of player that would fit perfectly in the Matt Rhule offense. You need versatile athletes and Bell is exactly that. He would also be the fifth four-star recruit in the 2023 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings.

Wiltfong put in a crystal ball projection for Bell and there have been a few predictions at On3 too, so he’s got a 97 percent chance to commit to Nebraska according to the prediction machine. Bell is ranked 366th overall and is the No. 19 athlete in the 2023 class but is expected to play receiver.
