Nebraska football had some big-time prospects on campus over the weekend for official visits, but one of my favorite recruits on campus was offensive tackle Brian Tapu.
Out of Layton, Utah, Tapu is 6-foot-8, 300 pounds. He oozes potential and with the Huskers trending the wrong way with some offensive tackle recruits, Nebraska needed to hit a home run this weekend with Tapu.
And, it looks like the Huskers did just that. Tapu told 247 Sports that he loved the family atmosphere of the visit. It also sounds like he really connected with offensive line coach Donovan Raiola. He even connected with quarterback Dylan Raiola.
Tapu essentially said that Nebraska football is the leader in his recruitment. There is another visit on the schedule for him at Oregon State. After that, a decision will come soon after which is great news for the Huskers, who landed an expert projection from Sean Callahan of Husker Online on Sunday for Tapu to be N.
Nebraska football leading for offensive tackle Brian Tapu
Matt Rhule has talked often about how he recruits athletes and that it’s his job to make them football players. Well, Tapu is that same way on the offensive line. He’s got all the ability in the world and at 6-foot-8, 300 pounds, if you can’t make that dude into a solid player, something’s wrong.
Tapu is ranked No. 674 overall right now according to the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2025 class. His offer list mostly includes West Coast teams but he’s a guy who hasn’t played football for that long and despite the ranking, he’s got raw talent, which could lead him to be a quality starting tackle down the road.
Nebraska football needs a tackle like that in the 2025 class and Tapu fits the mold. Now, the Huskers just need to close. The On3 prediction machine gives Nebraska a 94-percent chance to do just that.
