The 2025 NFL draft was a little disappointing from a Nebraska football perspective. The Huskers had just two players picked, although Ty Robinson did go ahead of Shedeur Sanders, which made my weekend.

Robinson was picked in the fourth round by the Eagles. Thomas Fidone was drafted in the seventh round by the New York Giants. Congrats to both guys, but if Nebraska football is going to get back to its winning ways, it needs to start having more players picked in the draft.

There will be some down years, but the Huskers should be closer to the top in terms of draft picks by Big Ten teams. Right now, they are closer to the bottom, and that needs to change. The Huskers ranked 10th among Big Ten programs in players drafted.

Hopefully, it will start to change in 2026. According to a mock draft from CBS Sports, the drought of first-round picks for Nebraska football could come to an end in 2026, as Elijah Pritchett was projected in the first round to the Texans.

“Houston identified its offensive line as a point of weakness and made changes this offseason. Those issues will likely continue into next year based on the current construction of the unit. Pritchett is an unfinished product that teams have been trying to get in the transfer portal from Alabama for the past two years.”

Dylan Raiola has first-round potential, too, down the road. Dasan McCullough and Ceyair Wright are others to watch in terms of the 2026 NFL draft for the Huskers, but right now, the NFL draft is another reminder that Nebraska has some catching up to do.

Jordy Bahl pitches Huskers to a series win

After splitting the first two games of their series against Washington, the Nebraska softball team got a key win on Sunday, 6-0, thanks to a stellar performance from Jordy Bahl in the circle and at the plate.

After a rough outing for Bahl on Friday, the Huskers’ ace responded on Sunday with a complete-game one-hitter. The Huskies didn’t score and struck out nine times in a 6-0 win.

As if that wasn’t enough, Bahl hit two home runs and had four RBI as Nebraska softball improved to 35-12 overall. The Huskers are 14-5 in the Big Ten, which is tied for third. Oregon leads the conference at 17-2. UCLA is 15-3.

Nebraska baseball gets a series win

The Huskers dropped the first game of their series against Maryland on Friday, but bounced back with a win on Saturday, then rolled to a 21-5 run-rule win on Sunday to notch the 2-1 series win.

Nebraska baseball scored 21 runs on 19 hits in the win on Sunday. Gabe Swansen was 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, a home run, seven RBI, and three runs scored. It was the first time a Nebraska baseball player had seven RBI in a game since 2012.

Jackson Brockett got his second win of the season after allowing five runs, two earned, in five innings on the mound. He was also credited with four strikeouts.

On Saturday, sophomore pitcher Ty Horn led the way for the Huskers after tossing six scoreless innings to get the win in a 7-2 triumph. He allowed six hits and also had six strikeouts. Cael Sanderson led the offense with a 3-for-3 day at the plate. He had a home run, a double, and two RBI, falling a triple shy of the cycle.

Nebraska is tied for 10th in the Big Ten with four teams at 9-12. The Huskers are 21-23 overall but have their next six conference games at home, as well as a home game against Kansas State this Tuesday and Creighton on May 6.
