Nebraska football stayed active in the transfer portal on Saturday night with the commitment of former Georgia defensive back Justyn Rhett.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound defensive back didn’t garner a ton of attention in the transfer portal, but Georgia players are always attractive. They tend to be well-coached and highly ranked.

That’s the case with Rhett. He redshirted as a freshman and played in just a few games this season. It’s hard to get on the field at Georgia, so the former Bishop Gorman standout who was ranked No. 374 overall in the 2023 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings entered the transfer portal.

What Justyn Rhett could bring to Nebraska football

While Rhett hasn’t played much, he comes from a blue-blood program. Not only Georgia but also in high school. He’s also a guy with the physical tools to play cornerback and safety. The size profile is similar to Micah Hyde, a player John Butler, the Nebraska football defensive coordinator, coached with the Buffalo Bills.

Coming out of high school, 247 Sports projected Rhett to be an NFL draft pick. So he has all the tools, he just needs a chance to play. Nebraska football will give him that chance.

The Huskers could use a cornerback and safety, which is why Rhett makes sense. It seems like they will be running the 3-3-5, at least some sort of it, and one thing you need for that is versatile defenders. You also want defensive backs with NFL athleticism. Rhett has that.

It will be up to John Butler to help him reach his potential, but there is another solid take for the Huskers in the transfer portal.
