Nebraska football was able to pick up a commitment on Friday afternoon from former USC corner Ceyair Wright. He made the announcement on X via Hayes Fawcett.

Wright most recently played at USC. He had a successful 2022 season, as he tallied 28 tackles, an interception, and two pass breakups. He started in 14 games, doing so as a redshirt freshman.

All told, he had 30 tackles, one interception, and to pass breakups in 16 games with the Trojans.

Nebraska football lands a key difference maker

This is a big pickup for Nebraska football on multiple levels. For one, they needed secondary depth in the worst way. They lost Blye Hill to injury in the spring, and Ethan Nation to the transfer portal. Now, they have a corner with multiple years of eligibility that can immediately slide into the secondary. This helps the depth of the position immensely. The secondary was an area where Nebraska football really needed to improve in terms of depth. This was the one glaring area, and they were able to fill it.

in addition to the multiple years of eligibility, he also has the chance to be able to play right away. This is certainly a bonus, as Hill works to get back from injury. Now, they have somebody who can play opposite Tommi Hill.  They don’t have to deal with patchwork options as they wait for Blye Hill to come back. Now, they have a viable defender who can fill that role perfectly.

Making moves in the transfer portal

Nebraska football has done a lot of work in the transfer portal. They have managed to land several impact playmakers on both sides of the football. The addition of Wright marks the eighth transfer in the 2024 class for the Huskers. They have eight transfers in total, with Wright being the highest one. The transfer class ranks 56th overall nationally per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

Overall, this was a major get for Nebraska football. They needed someone to fill the corner position spot badly. They were able to get it. Wright is an immediate impact player, and he can strengthen the secondary for years to come. After a few misses on the recruiting trail, the Huskers hit big with this one.
