Nebraska football head coach offered some positive injury updates on Wednesday as the Huskers prep for Illinois on Friday.

The injury report has been mostly negative for Nebraska football this week, especially with the news that Luke Reimer and DeShon Singleton will be out for a few weeks.

Reimer was dealing with a staf infection following an injury but Sean Callahan reported that he should be back in a few weeks. He said the same about Singleton.

Nebraska has a little more depth at linebacker and John Bullock will get the start for Reimer. Javin Wright and Mikai Gbayor should also see more snaps, while Princwill Umanmielen will be playing at JACK, rotating with Chief Borders and MJ Sherman.

However, there was some positive injury news for the Huskers as Matt Rhule confirmed that freshman defensive end Cameron Lenhardt, who has been sidelined the past few weeks, will be back. He had two sacks in the loss against Colorado and was among Nebraska’s best pass rushers early in the season.

Getting Lenhardt back in the lineup is huge for Nebraska football. Illinois likes to run the football but throws it more than last season with quarterback Luke Almyer. He’s been prone to interceptions and has five on the season.

We all know quarterbacks tend to make mistakes under pressure and it will be nice for Tony White to have his full array of pass rushers for the first time in weeks.

Nebraska football getting Jadyn Doss back

The offense clearly lacks playmakers right now. Matt Rhule has continued to praise the young wideouts but they haven’t made much of an impact yet. Jalen Lloyd caught a pass last week. He and Malachi Coleman are second on the depth chart behind Alex Bullock.

But another name Rhule mentioned this week was Jadyn Doss. He said that Doss is healthy. He actually said, “Jadyn will play this week.”

I’m not sure if that was a reference to his availability or if it means he will actually see the field, but this offense needs more explosiveness and getting Doss, Coleman, or Lloyd on the field would help.
