Nebraska football is taking part in a big recruiting weekend this weekend. It appears that their efforts are paying off. Saturday, they got a prediction from On3’s Bryan Munson to land four-star defensive lineman Malcolm Simpson.

Simpson is the 30th overall defensive lineman in the 2025 class, and the 40th overall player in his classroom the state of Texas per the 247Sports composite rankings. ESPN and Rivals have him listed as a three-star lineman.

Simpson measures in at six-foot-three, 255 pounds. He has tremendous strength, and is able to overpower his matchup and get into the offensive backfield with ease. He does not necessarily rely on a combination of moves to get around offensive lineman. Instead, he uses his pure strength to be able to win his matchups. He is quick off the snap and that helps him always be involved in the play.

This would be a big commitment for Nebraska Football

This would certainly be a big get for the Nebraska football program for a couple of reasons. For one, they needed another defensive lineman. Nash Hutmacher and Ty Robinson will both be gone next season. Those are going to be hard players to replace.

The Huskers need to get another defensive lineman for the 2025 class. Landing Simpson would check off the boxes in a big way. Defensive lineman Tyson Terry is the headliner for the class at the position. A combination of Simpson and Terry would be the dynamic duo needed to replace Hutmacher and Robinson. Nebraska’s defensive line has been better in recent seasons, and that trend would continue with the commitment here.

Secondly, this would give Nebraska football another player from the state of Texas. The state has been a priority under this coaching staff, and continuing to land players from there will only bode well for the future. There is a ton of talent in the state, and several quality players fly under the radar. The Huskers have established a stronghold in the state, which is certainly a smart move. I don’t expect that to slow down anytime soon.

2025 Nebraska Football recruiting class is taking shape

Currently, the 2025 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 38th overall nationally per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. A commitment from Simpson will undoubtedly boost that ranking up. This class is extremely strong. Not only is it extremely strong right now, but it has a lot of room to grow. Hopefully, the class will increase by the end of this month.

In any event, this prediction is certainly a step in the right direction. This fills a need for Nebraska, and it would give them another talented player. One has to wonder how close Simpson is to committing to the program.

This coaching staff has a knack for being able to seal the deal once recruits are on campus. On top of this, they have been able to put together the last couple of classes before the season starts. It seems that trend has a good chance of continuing here. Hopefully, another busy summer is underway.
