Matt Rhule is a tough guy to beat on the recruiting trail, especially when it comes to in-state recruits. There has been plenty of concern among Nebraska football fans about the recruitment of Christian Jones.
However, Jones is on his official visit this weekend in Lincoln. It’s actually the 11th visit total he’s taken to Nebraska football during his recruitment. That’s not a surprise for the Omaha Westside product, but no other program has hosted him more than twice.
Steve Wiltfong on On3.com, who projected Jones to the Huskers for 247 Sports, wrote he was “close” to doing the same with Jones for the On3 prediction machine.
It sounds like the official visit is going well and maybe the Huskers will be able to close with Jones like they did Carter Nelson last June.
Yet, that wasn’t the only positive update from Wiltfong about a Nebraska football target.
Nebraska gaining momentum with Dawson Merritt
Chad Simmons of On3.com reported that the Huskers were “hanging tough” in the recruitment of top-100 linebacker Dawson Merritt.
Merritt visited Alabama last weekend. He took his official visit to Nebraska during the spring game and brought his dad, who is an assistant coach for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Alabama started trending with projections for Merritt this week, but Wiltfong wrote that the Huskers have “momentum” with Merritt. Matt Rhule connected with him for a phone call. Merritt also posted on X today and a bunch of Nebraska football staffers have teased good news on social media.
That could be in regards to Jones. It could be concerning Merritt or it could be both. But if Nebraska football can land Jones and Merrit, it would be a home run for the Huskers.
