Nebraska football just landed a commitment from the Miami area and could be getting another.
Matt Rhule is great at generating discussions among Nebraska football fans with his tweets. He’s always using emojis or other images to drop hints.
Coaches aren’t supposed to talk about recruits directly, so it’s kind of a fun way to keep the fans in the loop, at least when you can tell what’s going on.
I still don’t completely understand the reference in Rhule’s Tweet, where he said, “OMG, they really really messed up.” Kewan Lacy re-tweeted it. Was that about him? Who knows.
However, a recent tweet sent out by Matt Rhule on Sunday seems a little easier for Nebraska football fans to interpret. Rhule tweeted an image of himself making a hand gesture which pretty clearly shows him making the number 305.
Nebraska football fans have decided that his means area code 305 which is the area code for Miami, Florida. It’s true that Nebraska just landed four-star wide receiver Jacory Barney from Miami, Florida. So maybe that’s what Rhule is referencing.
I don’t think so though. He tweeted the #GBR and a shrug/fire emoji after Barney went public. Again, it’s an interpretation, but it’s pretty clear it was the Michael Jordan sort of shrug after he made all those 3-pointers in the 1992 NBA Finals against Portland.
That’s my view anyway. I could be wrong. I could also be wrong about the 305 tweet on Sunday which I took as a reference to Amare Sanders, a recruit that was just given a crystal ball projection to land with Nebraska.
This quote tweet by Jacory Barney seems to hint at a commitment (especially the word soon) too for Sanders. I don’t know any other top targets from the Miami area at the moment.
These two things could be totally unrelated. But Sanders took an official visit to Nebraska football on June 3rd. That’s the only school he’s visited officially. Michigan, Florida, and Louisville hosted him for unofficial visits. He was also offered by Virginia this month. Florida offered back in May.
Wiltfong had to have some sort of intel to put in a crystal ball and if Rhule’s tweet is about Sanders, a commitment could be coming, which would be the third from the Miami area in the 2024 class.
