Nebraska football continues to roll on the recruiting trail with another 2024 commitment from Carlon Jones, plus more Nebraska Cornhuskers news.

There was a ton of Nebraska football recruiting news on Thursday as the Nebraska Cornhuskers landed a new commitment and had two other 2024 targets announce decisions.

To start with the good news, the Nebraska Cornhuskers added their 22nd commitment to the 2024 recruiting class on Thursday as three-star Carlon Jones committed. The crystal ball from Steve Wiltfong came on Wednesday and the commitment was soon after.

At 6-foot-2, 270 pounds, Jones is maybe a little undersized, which is probably why he’s ranked No. 673 overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings. However, he’s a disruptor and finished his junior season with more than 100 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks.

Nebraska football is now ranked 13th in the 2024 team rankings according to 247 Sports and Jones is the seventh commitment from Texas in the 2024 cycle. Since Matt Rhule was hired, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have added 50 total commitments and 13 are from Texas.

Jones is the latest. As I said, he doesn’t have ideal size, but he can rush the passer. He’ll do just fine as a three or five-technique with Nebraska football.

Nebraska football O-line recruiting updates

There was a lot going on with the Nebraska Cornhuskers offensive line recruiting on Thursday. For starters, in-state prospect Caleb Pyfrom committed to Illinois.

It sounds like Nebraska football viewed him more as a guard and he was told that there aren’t any spots left, so he went to Illinois. It’s a good move all around and really, the Huskers do have some solid interior prospects already in this class. They need a big-time tackle.

And they might be in line to get one. Kansas State landed three-star offensive tackle Kaedin Massey, another Nebraska football target on Thursday night, however, top-100 tackle Grant Brix also got an expert projection to the Huskers on the same day.

Are all these things connected? Possibly.

Regardless, Nebraska football is the leader for Brix according to the On3 prediction machine. He’s also now the unquestioned top target left on the Nebraska Cornhuskers recruiting board for 2024. Brix is 6-foot-5, 280, and ranked as the fifth-best offensive tackle in the 2024 class.

Danny Dimes finally gets upgraded

Daniel Kaelin made a big leap in the updated 247 Sports rankings for the 2024 class and was finally awarded a fourth star.

Kaelin actually worked his way into the Top 247. He’s ranked as the 15th-best quarterback in the class via 247 Sports’ own rankings and 225th overall. In the composite rankings, Kaelin is still listed as a three-star recruit but jumped into the top 500. He’s now ranked 480th overall.
