Nebraska football has been projected to land Preston Taumua by an Oregon recruiting expert, which just about seals the deal.
Not all recruiting experts are created equal. Some opinions mean a little more, so when I saw that Oregon On3 expert Justin Hopkins projected four-star offensive lineman Preston Taumua to Nebraska football, it tells me a lot about where the Huskers stand.
Oregon seemed like the favorite not long ago. Taumua took an official visit to Eugene last, and Hopkins put in an expert projection for the Ducks to land the four-star offensive lineman ranked 235th overall via the On3 industry rankings. Taumua is ranked 237th overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings.
At any rate, there have been some expert projections in favor of Nebrska football, notably from Blair Angulo of 247 Sports and Sean Callahan of Husker Online.
As I indicated though, Hopkins is one of the best. He’s definitely the best when it comes to Oregon recruiting intel and for him to predict that Taumua will wind up at Nebraska is good enough for me.
Why Huskers should feel good about Presto Taumua
I already felt really good about where Nebraska fooball stood in this recruitment following the news that Taumua was going to announce his commitment on July 16th.
The 6-foot-4, 315-pound offensive lineman is the top-ranked player out of the state of Hawaii and has really connected with offensive line coach Donovan Raiola.
With the prediction of Hopkins, the Huskers now have a 96-percent chance according to the On3 prediction machine of landing Taumua’s commitment. There is still just one crystal ball projection but I wouldn’t be surprised to see more follow in the coming days.
Nebraska football has five four-star commitments in the 247 Sports composite rankings right now and it appears that on July 16th — Tuamua’s decision day — the Huskers will add another including the first blue-chip offensive lineman of the 2024 recruiting class.
Gibson Pyle should be a four-star recruit. I’m sure he’ll get a bump after the All-American Bowl invite, but hopefully, he actually gets his due.
Either way, the offensive line class should look even better in the next week, which will set up a run at Grant Brix, although maybe there is still reason to hold out hope for Brandon Baker too.
