Nebraska football is trending with expert projections for a four-star offensive lineman plus more Nebraska Cornhuskers news.

It was interesting recently when Nebraska football “missed” out on a few offensive line targets. It seemed clear that the Huskers didn’t have room for Caleb Pyfrom.

They did want Kaedin Massey, but while Kansas State won that and got a good player, Nebraska football was already projected to land Grant Brix by Bryan Munson of Husker Online.

Now, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are being projected by multiple experts to land four-star offensive lineman Preston Taumua. The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder is the top-ranked recruit in the state of Hawaii. He’s also ranked No. 234 overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Blair Angulo, one of the West Coast recruiting experts for 247, put in a crystal ball for the Huskers on Thursday night. Taumua got another projection from On3. The On3 prediction machine now gives Nebraska football a 46 percent chance because an Oregon expert recently projected the blue-chipper to the Ducks.

That was a couple of weeks ago though. Donovan Raiola should be able to lock this down and if so, it would be the second-highest-ranked commitment of the 2024 class for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Nebraska football projected as a breakout team in 2023 by 247 Sports

Earlier this week, 247 Sports listed its top 10 breakout teams for the 2023 season and the Nebraska Cornhuskers made the list at No. 9. Colorado was actually listed ahead of Nebraska, which didn’t make sense to me.

We could be totally wrong about Colorado. Maybe the Buffaloes will get to a bowl game this season and turn things around quickly. I’m skeptical though.

I know people are skeptical about Matt Rhule too, especially some Nebraska football fans that were burned by Scott Frost and Mike Riley.

But Rhule is the real deal and I think Nebraska should have been much higher than ninth on the list.

In-state recruits to watch in 2025

Nebraska football is off to a hot start in the 2025 class with in-state recruits. The Huskers have two of the top three players committed already, plus they are in a solid spot with four-star linebacker Christian Jones.

Chase Loftin is another name Husker fans need to know for the 2025 class. He’s another really talented tight end out of Elkhorn North. He’s 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, and unranked by 247 Sports right now.

However, he was offered by Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa State, Kansas State, and Illinois this summer. We talked earlier this week about how Illinois has landed two Nebraska recruits in 2024. Keep an eye on them moving forward.

Loftin, it’s clear, is also going to be a hotly-tested recruitment in the 2025 class, but as with Jones, I feel good about where the Huskers stand early on, especially with the way they have prioritized in-state recruits.
