Nebraska football is hosting a number of top targets in the 2024 class this weekend including Mario Buford.

The Nebraska football team is hosting a number of official visitors this weekend and it’s starting to feel like the Huskers could land a few commitments by the time it’s all said and done.

One name to keep an eye on at least is four-star defensive back Mario Buford, who has received two new expert projections from On3.com to land with Nebraska football.

Bryan Munson and national On3 recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman have both projected Buford to commit to Nebraska football, which adds to some crystal ball projections from 247 Sports.

Michigan State and Penn State are also in the mix and those programs are expected to get official visits. However, with the new projections, Buford now has a 94-percent chance to commit to Nebraska football according to the On3 recruiting prediction machine.

Can Nebraska football get Mario Buford’s commitment this weekend?

Out of DeSoto, Texas, Buford is ranked 314th overall via the On3 Industry ranking. The 5-foot-11, 157-pound cornerback is ranked as the No. 34 player at his position, as well as 54th in the state of Texas.

Matt Rhule has already established a recruiting pipeline in the state of Texas. Three recruits have already committed from the Lone Star State in 2023 and Buford could be No. 4.

That would be half of the Huskers’ eight commitment if Buford came on board in short order. There’s no indication other than these expert picks that an announcement is coming. But’s a good sign, especially when a national expert puts in a prediction.

Surely, Nebraska is going to try and seal the deal this weekend. The Huskers are getting the first visit and will try to make it the last. Michigan State and Penn State will try to get him on campus. Buford sounded intrigued when talking about Penn State.

However, Nebraska has felt like the leader since Buford visited campus numerous times this spring. Nothing has changed and if the Huskers hit it out of the park with his visit this weekend, it seems like he’ll be part of the 2024 class soon enough.
