Mario Buford decision date is great news for Nebraska Football

Mario Buford, one of the top recruiting targets for Nebraska football is set to announce his commitment this week.

There’s no question that the Nebraska football program knocked it out of the park in terms of its first official visit weekend of June.

The Huskers had 10 recruits on campus, including Daniel Kaelin, and it feels like they made legitimate progress with all of them. Not all are going to wind up in the 2024 Nebraska football recruiting class.

However, the Huskers made some real headway and are already trending towards a commitment from four-star cornerback Mario Buford.

Buford has been trending with crystal ball projections and other expert projections for a while, even some started trickling in prior to his visit. On Friday, he posted a video with head coach Matt Rhule and the head coach said, “Go Big Red.”

It was implied that it meant Buford should commit this weekend. That’s what I took from it and from all indications, it seems like that’s what happened.

Buford was supposed to take visits to Michigan State and Penn State before making a final decision. But now, after his visit to Nebraska football, he has announced a commitment date of June 8, which is tremendous news for the Huskers.

Since Buford won’t be taking any other visits before he announces, you can basically take a commitment to Nebraska football to the bank. If I had a crystal ball, it would be on Nebraska with the 10/10 confidence — as in this is 100 percent locked down.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Buford already silently committed to the staff and is just planning out the announcement at this point. Either way, it’s great news for the Huskers who would be landing their second four-star commitment of this class. The first was Roger Gradney, also a four-star defensive back from Texas.

Commitments are coming for Nebraska football

Nebraska football is also in a great spot with Caleb Pyfrom, Jacory Barney, and Joseph Alexander. All three have been projected to Nebraska before or after this visit weekend. Carlon Jones is another name I’m watching, plus the Huskers made headway with Peyton Morgan, Amare Sanders, Dontae Carter, and William Nettles.

Nettles has said he will announce his commitment next month, which I think bodes well for Nebraska football. Jones doesn’t have any other official visits scheduled right now and neither does Barney. Pyfrom has already said he’ll be back on June 23rd for what will be another big visit weekend and right now, I could see 5-10 commitments this month.

At least that number by mid-July. However, all signs say that Buford will be N before the week is done.
