After another visit to USC over the weekend, Dylan Raiola has picked up a trio of crystal ball projections. Should Nebraska football panic?

Recently, it seemed as though the Nebraska football program was trending in the right direction when it comes to five-star 2024 QB Dylan Raiola, but this past weekend at USC might have changed that.

Raiola, the No. 1 overall quarterback in the 2024 class and a five-star prospect, took an unofficial visit to USC this weekend and told 247 sports that his visit was “amazing.”

Of course, Raiola spent the weekend prior to that visiting Nebraska football during the dead period. He watched a basketball game and got a standing ovation from the crowd.

Nebraska football also got a new crystal ball projection last weekend and the Huskers seemed to be trending in the right direction. However, Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports has changed his crystal ball pick from Georgia to USC with a confidence level of six. He was also joined by two well-respected analysts on the West Coast.

That’s three crystal balls for USC. Plus, the Trojans are the new leader according to the On3.com prediciton machine and you have to ask, is it time to panic for Nebraska football?

Should Nebraska panic?

No. I’d be concerned. Wiltfong doesn’t change his crystal ball without reason. At the same time though, that’s reflecting more who the leader is right now. I’ll buy that USC has taken the lead, but let’s see where things stand after Raiola visits Nebraska in a couple of weeks.

Wiltfong put in his crystal ball for Malachi Coleman to go to Colorado, only to change it days later after Coleman met with Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule.

Plus, this next visit will be the first time Raiola has gotten to spend a couple of days on campus and with the coaching staff. So, no, it’s not time to panic. However, it would be smart for Nebraska to increase contact with Daniel Kaelin, the three-star, top-500 QB in the state of Nebraska.

It would hurt to miss on Raiola, but one thing the Huskers can’t do is whiff on the quarterback position in 2023. That’s why it would be smart to re-engage with Kaelin, who also has a bright future.
