Could Nebraska’s top commitment be targeted for a flip?

Nebraska football will finally get a decision from four-star defensive tackle Valdin Sone on Friday. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound defensive tackle from Sweden will announce his commitment from his home country.

We don’t have an exact time. But Sone, who is ranked No. 150 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, will announce a decision between Nebraska, Georgia, Florida, and Auburn.

Georgia is expected to be the pick at this point. Steve Wiltfong, Chad Simmons, and even the Nebraska football experts have projected Sone to Georgia. The Bulldogs just lost a five-star defensive lineman this week, so they are surely pushing hard to close, if they haven’t already.

However, don’t expect Nebraska football to give up. Tim Verghese of Rivals, among others, has reported that the Huskers will try to get Sone back on campus for a game this fall, just like they will do with Jordan Campbell, Tedarius Hughest, and Kamron Wilson.

Guarding against a flip with Danny Odem

Yet, as busy as the Huskers will be trying to flip some 2026 recruits this fall, they might have to play some defense with four-star commitment Danny Odem. The four-star cornerback is now ranked No. 143 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Odem pledged to Nebraska football in June over Ohio State and some other blue-blood programs. He’s 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, and one of the best man-to-man cover corners in this class. In its rankings, 247 Sports has him ranked in the top 100 overall, also among the top 10 corners.

Rivals recruiting expert Greg Smith opined earlier this week that Ohio State could circle back to Odem after a four-star defensive back flipped from the Buckeyes to North Carolina. It’s not a guarantee, but with Odem’s talent, it wouldn’t be shocking.

The Huskers used a higher NIL offer to beat out the Buckeyes before, and they might need to do it again to keep the highest-ranked recruit in the class until signing day.
