Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.
After a bye week for Nebraska football fans, which was less than satisfying, it’s time to turn our attention to Washington.
The Huskies are having a disappointing season under Jedd Fisch. They are 4-3. Star quarterback Demond Williams hasn’t met expectations after dealing with some injuries. Williams did practice last week, though, so his status will be worth watching this week.
As far as the early odds go, Nebraska football is an 8.5-point favorite. It should be noted that through seven games, the Huskers are 7-0 against the spread. They say good teams win and great teams cover the spread.
Nobody is calling Nebraska football a great team. The Huskers should be 7-0. If they have taken a step forward, they will win the next three games, making the Big Red 8-2 going into the Ohio State game.
That would feel like progress. After watching Scott Frost and UCF beat No. 2 this weekend, as well as Luke Fickell lead the Wisconsin Badgers into the Top 25 after a win over USC, it feels like everyone gets to enjoy a ranked win except Nebraska football fans.
Hopefully, our time is coming. For now, beating Washington is the next step. Just go 1-0 for the next three weeks.
Nebraska basketball is playing Kansas State in an exhibition game
The Nebraska basketball team will open the season officially next week. Before that, Fred Hoiberg’s team has another exhibition game to play against former Big 12 rival Kansas State.
The game will be played in Grand Island. That will give some other Husker fans a chance to see the team that is fresh off a berth in the Sweet 16.
Trevan Leonhardt, Pryce Sandfort, Braden Frager, Boden Kapke and Cale Jacobsen will be the starting five. Sam Orme, the dynamic shooter who is supposed to play the four, is still dealing with an injury. He will be out tonight.
According to Husker Online, “Kansas State enters the season under first-year head coach Casey Alexander with almost an entirely new roster. The Wildcats returned just one player from last year’s 12-20 team and added 13 newcomers, including 10 Division I transfers.”
The Huskers are 0-2 in exhibition games, losing to St. Louis and BYU. The season opener is next Monday against Le Moyne.
