Nebraska football ‘setting the pace’ with 5-star recruit but there is work to do

The Huskers are still in a great position to land five-star Ahmad Hudson, but Nebraska football has work to do, too.

Nebraska football has put together a really strong start to the 2027 recruiting class. The Huskers already have two top-50 prospects committed and one five-star.

However, Nebraska has set its sights on another five-star recruit, Ahmad Hudson. The 6-foot-5, 239-pound tight end out of Louisiana is ranked No. 1 at his position and 17th overall in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Hudson built a great rapport with Nebraska QB commit Trae Taylor, one of the guys we mentioned who’s ranked in the top 50 overall. The two played on the same 7-on-7 team at the tournament hosted by the Huskers last summer.

Hudson has been on campus three times. He was expected to visit a couple of weeks ago, but he wasn’t able to come. A spring visit is still on the table. It sounds like an official visit will be, too.

Nebraska football is leading with 5-star TE

According to Sam Spiegelman of Rivals, Nebraska football is “setting the pace” for the five-star recruit, which is wonderful news. We have heard this kind of thing before, though. This reminds me of some of the five-star offensive tackles the Huskers have pursued, or the wideout that ended up going to Texas.

LSU and Texas A&M are the two teams to watch. It’s not going to be easy to beat out Lane Kiffin in this recruitment, especially if the Tigers are rolling this fall.

Hudson is out of Louisiana. So that makes it even more difficult. Frankly, it would be the best recruiting win of Matt Rhule’s career. The Huskers will need a solid showing on the field, though, even if they eventually get a commitment.

Getting to signing day won’t be easy. This is all getting ahead of ourselves. It’s super early and visits will tell the story, as they do with every recruitment. But as it stands right now, Nebraska football is the leader.

That’s something.
