Who said Nebraska football doesn’t recruit the state of Nebraska?
The Huskers landed the commitment of in-state linebacker Jase Reynolds on Monday, and the three-star from Elkhorn, Nebraska, happens to be one of the top players in the state in the 2026 recruiting class.
Nebraska has had Reynolds on campus numerous times, including just recently for the Husker games (spring scrimmage). Now, he’s N, and here are three thoughts on his commitment.
Nebraska is not worried about rankings
Reynolds is a three-star recruit, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker/EDGE is ranked 1,182 via the On3 Industry rankings with 247 Sports, Rivals, and On3 rating him as a three-star recruit.
Reynolds is a talented athlete, though. He was also productive last season with 91 tackles and eight pass breakups. He also had a couple of sacks.
It remains to be seen whether he’ll be an EDGE or a linebacker. Having a dude who can play off-ball linebacker, but also cover and rush the quarterback, is never a bad thing.
Matt Rhule and company have proven they are better talent evaluators than the “scouts,” so I wouldn’t worry about rankings. Trust Rhule’s eye.
A key in-state commitment
There have been some grumblings about in-state recruiting, so much so that Matt Rhule addressed it during one of his spring press conferences.
He said that he values winning more than in-state recruiting (essentially). However, the Huskers showed that they can still close with the in-state recruits they want.
Things have been up in the air with Isaac Jensen. It seems like that is going another direction. Nebraska also missed on Chase Loftin in the 2025 class.
Yet, Rhule has landed the in-state recruits he wants, for the most part. This cycle, the Huskers have offered three, and now one, Reynolds, is in the fold.
Nebraska football has momentum
After landing Trae Taylor last Thursday, Nebraska football has gotten two commitments in five days — three if you count the new kicker from the portal.
Things have been a little slow on the recruiting trail, but Nebraska football has an impressive list of visitors for June. Those are the top targets on the board and it feels like the Huskers are about to springboard into another strong summer.
Jase Reynolds is just the start.
