Two big positives for Nebraska football on the recruiting trail

There were two positive developments for the Nebraska football program on the recruiting trail on Friday night.

Nebraska football landed its sixth commitment of the 2026 class on Friday night, but the good news didn’t stop with three-star tight end Luke Sorensen.

Sorensen was a solid get for the Huskers. Rivals ranks him as a four-star recruit. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound tight end used to be an offensive tackle. He’s got huge potential and was a former offensive lineman.

So, Nebraska football fans should be excited. However, there is more to be excited about.

Claude Mpouma (No. 169 overall), one of the recruits on campus this weekend, maybe the most important, is a 6-foot-7, 308-pound offensive tackle is from Chicago, just like Trae Taylor.

Taylor posted a photo of the two on Friday.  It feels like this is a recruitment where the 2027 quarterback could make an impact. During his official visit to Lincoln, Mpouma announced on Friday that he will make his commitment known on June 29th.

Nebraska, Michigan, Auburn, Ohio State, and Florida are the finalists. All of those programs are heavy hitters, but the Huskers need a major win at offensive tackle. We’ll see how things feel after the visit, but I take that as a positive for Nebraska football.

The Huskers could use a major recruiting win, and the massive offensive tackle would certainly qualify.

2026 running back projected to Nebraska football

The running back board is very thin for the Huskers. Brian Bonner is one of the targets left. He hasn’t committed yet and is considering Nebraska, UCLA, Washington, and Penn State.

Another running back could be a Nebraska commitment soon, though. Jamal Rule, a three-star running back from Charlotte, is ranked No. 778 overall, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

Rule posted a final four on Thursday that included Nebraska, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, and Michigan State. He said a commitment would come “soon.” There isn’t an exact date. However, Bryan Munson of Husker Online has projected Rule to Nebraska to play for Matt Rhule.

There might even be some good news before the weekend is over. Nebraska currently has an 84 percent chance to win the commitment of Rule.
