Nebraska football has had some key misses on the recruiting trail in recent weeks and it looks like the Huskers are going to suffer another miss, this time with an in-state priority.

Chase Loftin was one of the top priorities in the 2025 recruiting class for Nebraska football. He has visited the Huskers more than 10 times since Matt Rhule he was hired. He’s ranked second in the state of Nebraska for the 2025 class and it appears as though he’s going to commit to Florida State.

Nebraska football projected to miss on Chase Loftin

The Seminoles were one of the teams that hosted Loftin for an official visit along with Nebraska football, Missouri, Kansas State, and Texas A&M. Loftin visited Lincoln last weekend and there seemed to be some positive momentum for the Huskers.

However, things have been fading. It’s been really quiet this week and there hasn’t been a trend of crystal ball predictions or expert projections. Now we know why. That’s because Florida State has become the favorite.

Bryan Munson of Husker Online who was the first to project Loftin to Nebraska after his visit, flipped his pick to Florida State. The Seminoles have three expert projections and now have a 92 percent chance to win the commitment of the 6-foot-6, 215-pound tight end out of Omaha.

Loftin also has a crystal ball for the Noles. He’s ranked No. 374 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings and a decision could come this next week. Loftin said he wanted to decide “soon” after his final visit and it looks like that decision won’t be a commitment to the Huskers.

Predictions aren’t commitments but this is a really bad sign.
