We react to Nebraska football landing a former five-star tight end in Arik Gilbert, cover the latest recruiting news, and a Penn State hoops preview.

It’s been another busy week for Nebraska football recruiting as the Huskers landed former five-star tight end Arik Gilbert via the transfer portal on Thursday.

Gilbert visited Nebraska football last weekend, along with some other programs in the Big Ten and Mountain West, according what he told Sean Callahan of Husker Online.

The bottom line is that Gilbert is an athletic freak. He had 368 receiving yards as a freshman at LSU and was ranked as the No. 5 overall recruit in the 2020 recruiting class via the 247 sports composite rankings.

We (Danny Jaillet of the greatcornholio.org joined me as always) offer our thoughts on his commitment and break down what the tight end room could look like moving forward for Nebraska football in the 2023 season. Thomas Fidone shouldn’t be overlooked and the two of them could be a dangerous duo.

Gilbert was the second addition via the portal this week from Georiga as EDGE MJ Sherman committed earlier in the week. That filled another position of need for the Huskers. We all know Nebraska could use another offensive lineman and we offer up a new name to watch, plus cover the latest recruiting news.

Nebraska football is hosting four recruits from the 2023 class on official visits this weekend and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Huskers go 4/4 in terms of signing them. Beyond that, we discuss Dylan Raiola and where Nebraska stands after his recent visit, as well as taking a look ahead to Nebraska basketball and Penn State.

Touching on Nebraska basketball too

The Huskers are 10-9 overall but this is a winnable road game and in the Big Ten, there aren’t many of those. The Nittany Lions shoot the ball really well from beyond the arc. The game will likely be decided by the matchup of Jalen Pickett and Sam Griesel — at least in my opinion.

Derrick Walker might have to work for attempts, because Penn State really works to prevent post ups, but if the Huskers can get the ball inside to Walker and Griesel, it should bode well.
