Bad news for Nebraska Football on Dylan Raiola front

Nebraska football fans won’t like the recent update having to do with Dylan Raiola and here’s the latest for the Huskers.

When Dylan Raiola decommitted from Ohio State, it sent Nebraska football fans into a frenzy. There was always hope that the Huskers would be able to land the legacy and it was renewed when that happened.

His dad, Dominic was a Nebraska football great, and his uncle, Donovan Raiola, is currently the offensive line coach. He’s also the lone holdover kept by Matt Rhule from the previous coaching staff.

I’ve said all along not to jump to conclusions. Those connections weren’t going to make a commitment inevitable and now, it’s clear that Georgia is becoming a frontrunner.

Raiola was in attendance for the Bulldogs’ 65-7 win over TCU to capture a second straight national championship. UGA also didn’t sign a quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class, which could be another feather in their cap compared to teams like USC, Clemson, and others that could be in the mix.

After watching what former walk-on Stetson Bennett was able to do over the past two seasons, I’m sure it would be easy to sell Raiola on the idea of playing at Georgia, with a ridiculous amount of NFL talent.

Nebraska football can sell a lot of things but it can’t sell what Georgia can in terms of making the playoff and winning national championships.

A worrisome crystal ball projection

There was a crystal ball projection for Nebraska football soon after Raiola decommitted from Parker Thune, who covers Oklahoma for 247 sports. However, there hasn’t been any other movement, at least none in favor of Nebraska.

The Huskers are currently the leader, slightly, according to the On3 prediction machine, but a big part of that has to do with Raiola taking so many visits to Nebraska.

Yet, Georgia has been gaining momentum, and Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports put in a crystal ball projection for Raiola to commit to the Bulldogs on Tuesday.

That doesn’t mean that a commitment is imminent. It doesn’t but it’s also not a good sign. Wiltfong does change his picks often and says they are more about the pulse of where the recruitment stands.

So, I buy the fact that Georgia is the leader in this recruitment. However, there is still time to change it and that’s especially true if Rhule can get Raiola to take an official visit. That’s where this recruitment will be decided.

Beyond that, Daniel Kaelin is a top-500 prospect in the 247 sports composite rankings and a top-5 recruit in the state of Nebraska for 2024. Rhule has already told him that he doesn’t want the quarterback to leave the state and he would be a great option if Raiola seems out of reach.

It’s probably too early to say that. But it’s also recruiting and you never know.
