During the 2024 recruiting class, Carter Nelson was the must-land in-state recruit. There were a bunch of top targets for Nebraska football, but Nelson was the gem of the class.
The same can be said about Christian Jones in the 2025 recruiting class for Nebraska football. The Omaha Westside linebacker is the top-ranked player in the state in the 2025 class. That’s according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings which have the 6-foot-3, 220-pound linebacker ranked No. 158 overall.
As far as Nebraska football is concerned, Jones is a top priority and the Huskers have recruited him that way. He’s visited Nebraksa a bunch of times since Matt Rhule has taken over. He’s also talked about the impact Rhule has had on recruiting the state of Nebraska.
Yet, just like with Nelson and Malachi Coleman in the 2023 class, this is a national recruitment and Notre Dame is one team to watch.
The Irish made the final four for Carter Nelson and also landed Anthony and Teddy Rezac out of the state of Nebraska in recent years. Jones confirmed to Mike Singer who covers Notre Dame for On3.com, that he’s taking two visits to Notre Dame, with one of them being an official visit. He also told Singer that “Teddy is one of my best friends” which could bode well for the Irish.
How worried should Nebraska football be about Notre Dame?
Jones has visited Nebraska a total of eight times. There is a lot of familiarity there. Nebraska has an outstanding defense and the selling point of staying home is always a big one.
Alabama and Tennessee are also expected to get visits from Jones soon. It will be interesting to see if he visits Nebraska during spring ball. I’d be worried if he didn’t. But as long as that happens, and he makes an official visit this summer, I’d still call the Huskers the favorite. They lead with two crystal ball predictions and are the favorite with the On3 prediction machine.
Things can change quickly and in the recruitment of Jones, Notre Dame feels like a viable threat.
