Nebraska football has a thin running back room and that’s something that the Huskers are going to try to address with CharMar Brown.

Brown was the FCS Freshman of the Year last season for North Dakota State as the Bison won the national championship. He rushed for 1,181 yards and averaged 4.8 yards per attempt.

Nebraska football recruited him out of high school in the 2023 class, but the Huskers didn’t treat him as a priority. That has changed.

According to Sean Callahan of Husker Online, Nebraska football is targeting Brown in the transfer portal and will host him for a visit this week. Miami will also have him on campus for a visit. NIL is certainly going to be a factor.

We’ll see if the Huskers land Brown, but with no proven backs behind Emmett Johnson, another running back is needed. Brown would be the best option (5-11, 218) and would upgrade a room that’s awfully thin for the Big Ten.

Nebraska baseball gets a key series win

After suffering a 9-7 loss to Northwestern on Friday, the Huskers bounced back with two wins on Saturday for their second series win in Big Ten play.

Gabe Swansen blasted a grand slam in the second game of the series on Saturday. Max Buettenback was also 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI as the Huskers plated 14 runs in a 14-4 rout. Ty Horn got his first win of the season after allowing three runs on five hits in five innings.

In the second game of a double-dip, Nebraska built a 4-0 lead after four innings and held on for the 5-2 victory. Jackson Brockett got the win after tossing five shutout innings. Buettenback, Swansen, and Robby Bolin each had two hits as the Huskers improved to 19-21 overall. Nebraska is 7-9 in the Big Ten.

Nebraska softball splits

Nebraska suffered a rare loss on Friday with Jordy Bahl in the circle, after she allowed five runs in six innings of work in the 6-2 defeat to Indiana on Friday.

Yet, the Huskers bounced back with a 12-4 win on Saturday. Samantha Bland had two hits and drove in four runs. Kylee Magee improved to 6-3 on the season after allowing four runs in four innings. Bahl pitched a scoreless inning to help secure the win.

Kacie Hoffman managed three hits in the win. Aza Kuszak and Ava Bredwell added two hits. Nebraska is 33-11 overall and 12-4 in the Big Ten.
