Nebraska football is projected to face Texas in bowl game

Some Nebraska football fans are probably sick of bowl projections but the latest preseason projection is super interesting.

Most experts expect Nebraska football to reach a bowl game during the 2024 season. If it happens, as many of us have predicted, it would be the first time since the 2016 season.

That year, the Huskers battled an SEC foe, Tennessee, in the Music City Bowl. It was an exciting game that Nebraska lost in the fourth quarter (sound familiar) but it’s hard to fathom that was the last postseason game for Nebraska football.

With Dylan Raiola and double-digit starters back from last season’s 5-7 team, Nebraska, also armed with a favorable schedule (5 of the first 6 at home) should be able to get at least six wins.

I’m predicting a nine-win season for the Huskers. That seems to be more in line with what the Action Network believes because Brett McMurphy, who put out his preseason bowl projections, has Nebraska football playing in the Citrus Bowl on Dec. 31 against Texas.

Thoughts on the projected bowl game against Texas

It would be awesome to see the Huskers make the Citrus Bowl. They would have to be a top-five team or close in the Big Ten this season to earn that bid.

Also, what Nebraska football fan wouldn’t want a shot at Texas? I know I’m still pissed about the 2009 Big 12 championship game and in the short time Nebraska and Texas shared the same league, a mini rivalry broke out.

Of course, everyone hates Texas. But the Horns have been a thorn in the side of Nebraska for years, at least on the football field such as in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2005, 2009, and last season’s volleyball title match.

I’d love a shot at revenge, even though the Action Network makes Texas a 26.5-point favorite in the matchup, which seems wild. Quinn Ewers and the Horns are good, but Nebraska shouldn’t be that big of an underdog to anyone — at least not this season.
