Nebraska football will likely add at least one commitment to the 2024 class this week as Keelan Smith is trending to the Huskers.

If you read the tea leaves, it looks like Nebraska football will be adding its sixth commitment in the 2024 recruiting class on Friday.

That’s because on Wednesday, three-star athlete Keelan Smith announced a commitment date for this Friday and since then, he has received multiple expert projections to pledge to Nebraska football.

If you don’t know a ton about Smith, you might not be alone. But he has taken three visits to Nebraska football over the past two years and took another this spring on April 18. He has also taken visits this year to Kansas State, Missouri, Iowa, and Arkansas.

However, only Nebraska football and Missouri have offered at this point. The offer originally came under the Mickey Joseph interim staff, but Matt Rhule and Huskers are honoring it and both Sean Callahan and Bryan Munson of Husker Online put in expert projections for Nebraska.

That gives the Huskers a 98 percent according to the On3 prediction machine to be the team that Smith chooses on Friday when he announces his commitment.

What Nebraska could be getting in Keelan Smith

The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder is listed as a DB/athlete according to On3, while 247 Sports lists him as a tight end. However, Garrett McGuire was tagged in his visit and he’s actually listed as a wide receiver/tight end according to his Twitter page, so either way, it seems like he’d be a pass catcher.

Last season, as a junior, he caught 50 passes for 850 yards and caught 11 touchdowns. As a sophomore, he caught 16 passes for 321 yards and has over 1,100 yards receiving, while averaging 17.7 yards per catch.

Back in 2022, he ran the 100-meters in 14.7, which tells me he’d probably be a tight end at Nebraska, but who knows? Smith is currently unranked according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. However, the On3 Industry rankings have him as No. 871 overall, as well as the 50th-best athlete in the 2024 class.

Nebraska football has five commitments currently in the 2024 class. There is one four-star commitment and the Huskers rank 33rd in the 247 Sports team rankings.
