Nebraska football is one of the teams making a push for Princely Umanmielen, one of the top EDGE players in the transfer portal.
The focus in the transfer portal for Nebraska football fans has been on the quarterback position and rightfully so. But the Huskers have other ways to improve their team heading into 2024.
One way Nebraska football can improve is by adding elite playmakers in the transfer portal. It’s not easy to do, but there is one player that makes sense — Princely Umanmielen.
Umanmielen has an obvious connection to Nebraska football with his brother, Princewill already on the roster and earning Freshman All-American honors.
Soon after Princely entered the transfer portal, he tagged his brother in a post on X. And according to a report, citing 247 Sports and On3.com, Nebraska is one of the six programs in the mix for Umanmielen.
Ole Miss, Georgia, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas are also in the mix for Princely, who has 98 career tackles with 24.5 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks.
Nebraska has some promising pass rushers which includes Princewill, Cameron Lenhardt, as well as James Wiliams, and Kai Wallin. But if you get the chance to add an elite player like Princely, you do it and I’m glad to see that the Huskers are at least in the mix.
Another transfer portal target to know
Quarterback has been all the rage in the portal, but Nebraska football also needs more running back depth so the offer to former Iowa State running back Cartevious Norton makes sense.
The former 2022 recruit rushed for 343 yards in 2022 and 312 yards last season. Norton averaged 3.9 yards per attempt in each of the last two seasons and would give Nebraska another veteran back.
Emmett Johnson is set to return along with Rahmir Johnson, Gabe Ervin, and Kwinten Ives. Norton is 5-foot-11, 225 pounds, and would give Nebraska another big back to go along with Ervin, assuming he’s back.
So while Kyle McCord and Julian Fleming are getting all the attention right now, some other potential additions could improve this roster heading into 2024.
