Nebraska Football: Good and bad crystal balls, plus a new in-state offer

Nebraska football

Nebraska football got another crystal ball projection in the 2024 class, but 2025 QB Stone Saunders was also projected to Kentucky.

Jake Peters is just one of the official visitors hosted this weekend by Nebraska football and it feels like the Huskers are trending toward a commitment.

Nebraska football offered Peters earlier this month after a strong camp performance. The Huskers then got the 6-foot-3, 265-pounder back on campus for an official visit. Going into the weekend, Peters, a three-star via the 247 Sports own rankings, had one crystal ball projecting him to the Huskers.

Now, another has some and I would expect more expert projections to follow. Mike Schaefer of Husker247 was the latest to put in a prediction. Peters doesn’t have any other power-5 offers at this point and it makes sense for the Huskers to add an interior offensive lineman, especially if they feel good about Peters.

We’ll see where the ranking ends up with Peters. It would be a commitment from a kid without another Power-5 offer but it won’t be the first time that’s happened under Matt Rhule or the last.

2025 QB Stone Saunders projected to Kentucky

Nebraska football hosted 2025 quarterback Alex Manske this weekend. The three-star quarterback out of Iowa impressed the staff last weekend, earned an offer, then took an unofficial visit.

It seemed like Nebraska was prioritizing him more and maybe it’s because things are going a different direction with Stone Saunders. Or maybe Saunders felt like less of a priority.

Either way, Kentucky has gotten a crystal ball for the four-star quarterback in the 2025 class, so it appears the Wildcats are a real threat to land Saunders.

We knew getting Saunders wasn’t going to be easy. Manske also has a lot to like. He’s a little bigger and has a solid arm, as well as being athletic.

And if Saunders is really leaning toward Kentucky now, it makes it even more important for Nebraska football to take control with Manske who now has an offer from Iowa.

A new in-state offer

Another 2024 recruit that impressed the Nebraska football staff with a recent camp performance is unranked in-state prospect, Donovan Jones.

The 6-foot cornerback got his offer from the Huskers over the weekend and like Peters, Nebraska is the first Power-5 program to offer. Wyoming also took part in the camp after being invited by Rhule. The Cowboys offered Jones too.

It’s an interesting name to add to the cornerback board. You have to like the fact that Rhule rewards the kids that attend Nebraska camps and stand out. Plus, he trusts what he sees and doesn’t seem to care what others think.

At Temple and Baylor, Rhule made a career of finding diamonds in the rough and I’m confident he’ll be able to do that with the Huskers.
