It’s been an exciting week for Nebraska football on the recruiting trail as the Huskers flipped four-star linebacker Dawson Merritt from Alabama this week.
As exciting as that is, since Merritt is truly an elite prospect (ranked No. 116 overall) there could be more fireworks on the horizon for Nebraska football recruiting, at least according to 2025 quarterback commitment TJ Lateef.
Lateef, a four-star quarterback from California, had two touchdown runs and a touchdown pass in a win on Friday night. The 6-foot-2 quarterback told Mitch Sherman of Athletic to “look for a couple more flips in favor of the Huskers.”
There has been plenty of chatter about Oklahoma commitment Cortez Mills. Nebraska football recently had coaches in Florida and it’s likely they visited Mills. The Huskers also just processed a wide receiver out of the 2025 class, which makes me feel more confident in flipping Mills or landing Michael Terry.
The five-star wideout/athlete still hasn’t made a decision. Texas is the favorite, but Terry has talked openly about NIL being a factor, and Nebraska football could easily sell early playing time with Dylan Raiola.
Sean Callahan of Husker Online said “to keep an eye” on Terry. Husker coaches recently visited him too, which probably isn’t something you do if you don’t think you can land his commitment.
Chase Loftin is another candidate to flip. The in-state target is still committed to Florida State, but the Cornhuskers, Texas A&M, and Missouri are pushing for a flip.
Stay tuned.
Dana Holgorsen contract update
The new Nebraska football offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen will receive $66,667 for the month of November according to Amie Just.
That kind of tells you where things are at right now. It feels like Matt Rhule would like Holgorsen to stay. The Nebraska football head coach said the move could be “epic” and that the transition has been really “smooth.”
We’ll see how it looks on Saturday against USC. But if the Huskers get a bowl game, it feels like there’s a good chance they’ll be upping the ante with Holgorsen which probably includes a deal worth $1 million, even though he’s still getting buyout money from Houston, which could keep the cost down.

Busy day for Nebraska Cornhuskers
In addition to the Nebraska football game on Saturday, the No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team will be back at home against Indiana at 7 PM CST. After a win over 16th-ranked Minnesota earlier this week, the Cornhuskers have won 22 matches in a row. They are 15-0 in the Big Ten.
The Gophers did take a set off Nebraska volleyball which was impressive in its own right, even prompting head coach John Cook to say, “It felt weird” to drop a set.
Let’s keep that energy.
The 21st-ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team will also play at 7 PM CST against South Dakota inside the Sanford Pentagon. The men’s team will play St. Mary’s there on Sunday.
Natalie Potts has been a force for the Huskers, averaging 16 points and eight rebounds. Alexis Markowski is also fresh off a 22-point outing, Britt Prince has been solid in her debut season but overall this is a deep team.
Nebraska volleyball will play on the Big Ten Network, while the women’s basketball game will be on BTN+.
