The goal for the Nebraska volleyball team in 2024 is simple: win a national championship.

Nebraska volleyball fell one win short of that goal in 2023. The Huskers won the Big Ten title and advanced to the national title game before falling to Texas and settling for national runner-up.

That’s the second time in three seasons for the Huskers, who haven’t won the national championship since 2017. Winning the national title is never easy and nothing is a given, especially with Wisconsin in the Big Ten expected to be formidable once again.

But, Nebraska volleyball is loaded. The Huskers had five All-Big Ten preseason selections in Merritt Beason, Harper Murray, Lexi Rodriguez, Bergen Reilly, and transfer Taylor Landfair, an outside hitter who earned First-Team All-Big Ten last season for Minnesota.

Nebraska volleyball is a national title favorite

The Huskers are in Chicago this week, along with the rest of the Big Ten volleyball world, and college volleyball analyst Emily Ehman who works for Big Ten Network, ESPN, and Fox Sports, told Lauren Michaelson of KETV that Nebraska volleyball could be the team to beat in 2024.

“It’s very possible for this Nebraska team to make it back to the (national) championship game,” Ehman said. “For those young players, it was a great learning experience for them. They were able to go into the championship and even to know what a Final Four is, but this team has the ability to do it. Nebraska has the talent to do it. There are some great teams across college volleyball, but I still think Nebraska – in all of NCAA volleyball – could be the team to beat right now.”

John Cook, Lindsey Krause, and Kennedi Orr will meet with reporters representing Nebraska at Big Ten Media Days starting on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. CST.
