It’s been a storybook season for Nebraska basketball and the Huskers added another chapter on Sunday night with a 67-56 win over Rutgers, a victory that clinched a perfect 10-0 record at home this season in Big Ten Play. The Nebraska Cornhuskers went 18-1 at home in 2023-24, with Creighton the only loss.

Nebraska basketball has been grabbing the attention of college basketball pundits for the past few weeks, but on Sunday, Kevin McHale, an NBA legend and former coach of Fred Hoiberg’s, was in attendance and talked to the Huskers after the game about how impressed he was.

“It was fun watching you guys play basketball,” McHale told the team. “Those first five minutes everybody had their ass down, hands were up, you were moving, you helped, you got beat, you didn’t quit on the play…you guys really set the tone right away.”

McHale said Nebraska basketball was fun to watch. He also encouraged the Huskers to do whatever they could to keep making each other better before adding he thinks they “will be a tough out.”

The Huskers are 21-9 overall and 11-8 in the Big Ten. If they beat Michigan on the road Sunday, they will clinch the double-bye in the Big Ten tournament which would be a program first.

Nebraska baseball sweeps, ranked third in RPI

Call them the cardiac Cornhuskers. That’s because Will Bolt’s Nebraska baseball team pulled off another ninth-inning rally on Sunday, scoring twice in the top of the ninth on their way to a 5-3 win over College of Charleston. That netted the Cornhuskers a three-game sweep of College of Charleston which was previously unbeaten.

Nebraska baseball notched come-from-behind wins on Thursday (6-5) and on Saturday (5-4). This time, the Huskers entered the ninth tied at 3-3. Cayden Brumbaugh opened the inning with a double and later scored on a sac bunt. Cole Evans brought home another run and the Huskers closed it out to improve to 7-3 on the season. As of now, Nebraska baseball is third in baseball Live RPI for the 2024 season behind Clemson and Arkansas.

Nebraska Cornhuskers miss double-bye in women’s basketball

The Nebraska women’s basketball team wrapped up its regular season on Sunday with a 74-73 loss to Illinois on Sunday. It dropped Nebraska to 11-7 in the Big Ten conference and dropped them to the fifth seed for the Big Ten tournament. Jaz Shelley scored 23 points and had eight assists in the defeat. Alexis Markowski and Natalie Potts each pitched in with 14. The 19-10 Cornhuskers are in good shape to make the NCAA tournament, despite the loss to the Fighting Illini.
