Five-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker tweeted about Nebraska football over the weekend, plus more Nebraska Cornhuskers news.
Something that caught the eye of Nebraska football fans over the weekend was five-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker putting out a tweet that referenced four schools.
Nebraska football was one of them along with Florida State, Georgia, and Oregon. USC, Texas, and Ohio State all got official visits but weren’t included.
This isn’t the first time Baker has done something like this though. He tweeted out a similar image back in May. Nebraska football was included but is Baker actually serious about the Cornhuskers? Is this a top-four of sorts or just a post to get fans excited?
It’s hard to tell. He took a pair of unofficial visits in the spring. However, he didn’t make it back in June for an official visit. That seemed pretty telling.
You never know though. Recruiting is wild and the Nebraska Cornhuskers have already pulled off a few surprises in this class. But I wouldn’t get serious about Baker unless he visits again. Until then, I’m not considering him a serious target for the Huskers.
Gibson Pyle invited to All-American Bowl
Gibson Pyle was one of the first commitments in the Nebraska Cornhuskers 2024 class. He also might be one of the best and after a dominant performance at the FBU Top Gun Showcase in Naples, the 6-foot-4 interior offensive lineman earned an All-American bowl invite.
Last year, Malachi Coleman was the only Nebraska football pledge to earn an invite. Carter Nelson will also be going, giving the Huskers three in the past two years.
It’s also probably a sign that Pyle, who is ranked No. 743 overall, is way underrated. This kid is going to be a mauler when he gets to Lincoln and has multi-year starter written all over him.
Maybe the rankings will catch up to his ability.
Two Nebraska Cornhuskers drafted in the MLB draft
Brice Matthews became the first Nebraska Cornhuskers player picked in the first round of the MLB draft since 2006 when the Houston Astros drafted him 28th overall. Max Anderson didn’t last much longer as he was drafted in the second round, 45th overall by the Detroit Tigers.
Matthews and Anderson were dynamic hitters and it’s a shame the Huskers weren’t able to reach the NCAA tournament this season. But it will be fun to follow their careers in the pros.
Anderson hit .414 this past season for the Huskers with 20 home runs to his credit. Matthews batted .359 to go along with 21 long bombs.
