It has now been confirmed that Carter Nelson will visit for the Nebraska football spring game which is huge news for the Huskers.
Nebraska football fans are desperate for the Huskers to win the commitment of five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola. However, I’ve said all along that Carter Nelson is right there in terms of overall importance and the Huskers got some good news in that recruitment this week.
The top-ranked player in the state of Nebraska according to the On3 Industry rankings, as well as the 247 Sports composite rankings, will be in Lincoln for the spring game on Saturday according to his On3 profile.
Nelson is 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, and is out of Ainsworth. He plays eight-man football but that hasn’t stopped his recruitment from going national. Michigan, Alabama, Notre Dame, Georiga, Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida, and just about every major program have extended an offer to the tight end.
Nebraska remains a strong contender for Carter Nelson
Yet, Matt Rhule and the Huskers have done an outstanding job in his commitment. Nelson did just take a tour of SEC programs, which is worrisome for Nebraska football. But the fact that he will visit for the spring game is key and that’s because it’s the seventh visit overall.
Visits probably don’t matter as much for local kids or the volume might not mean as much, but this is the fifth time that Nelson has visited Nebraska football since Rhule was hired. I think that’s significant and if the Huskers can get him back on campus for an official visit, they could have a very real shot.
Landing in-state talent is a top priority for Rhule, yet Nelson would be a priority wherever he lived. He’s going to be an NFL player someday and I think he’s a guy who can make an early impact.
The Huskers also good got news with another in-state recruit this weekend as Isaiah McMorris took an unofficial visit. It would be nice to see some other top targets from the state make it for the spring game, but the fact that Nelson is a confirmed visitor is huge for Nebraska football.
