Nebraska football put itself in a strong position to land top-200 offensive tackle Broderick Shull following his official visit. He even said the Cornhuskers and Auburn were his co-leaders.

But after a visit to Auburn, the Tigers took over the top spot and on Friday, it was enough for Auburn to get Shull’s commitment. One of the top offensive tackles on the board in the 2025 class and one of the top targets overall for Nebraska football is now out of the picture.

I won’t pretend it’s not a blow for the Cornhuskers. David Sanders, the No. 1 tackle prospect in the 2025 class, recently visited, but Nebraska football feels like it’s on the outside looking in among the top teams.

Douglas Utu, an elite offensive lineman, rated as a five-star by ESPN and Rivals, was recently on campus. That would be a huge pickup and would lessen the sting of missing out on Shull, who is from Oklahoma.

Auburn is recruiting at a high level right now but it’s still disappointing. This felt like a winnable recruitment for the Huskers, who have struggled to close with elite offensive linemen outside of Grant Brix.

Nebraska football makes the top four for Jaylen Williams

One of the top targets for the Nebraska Cornhuskers on the D-line in the 2025 class, released his top four on Friday and included the Huskers. That’s Jaylen Williams, a 6-foot-6, 270-pounder out of Palatine, Illinois. He’s ranked No. 236 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Williams is visiting Michigan this weekend and Nebraska next weekend, although the Wolverines have been trending with crystal ball projections. They are the favorite but the Huskers aren’t out of it.

Adrian Martinez and former Cornhuskers in UFL playoffs

Former Nebraska football players Adrian Martinez and Carlos Davis who each earned All-UFL honors in the league for the Birmingham Stallions will take part in the USFL Conference Championship game on Saturday at 3 PM EST on ESPN/ABC. The winner will advance to the UFL championship game on June 16.

Martinez led the league in rushing in addition to being the best quarterback throughout the season. Davis, another former Nebraska Cornhuskers standout, had seven sacks.
