Husker Big Red Daily: Nebraska trying to keep Anthony Colandrea in 2027, lack of Ahamd Hudson buzz, more

We are one day from the start of Big Ten play for Nebraka football. The volleyball team also starts conference play Friday night, so the meat of the schedule is here for both programs.

On the eve of Big Ten play, Sean Callahan of Husker Online reports that the Huskers are already working to lock up Anthony Colandrea for the 2027 season. Negotiations have been ongoing, and Callanahan reports a deal could be done by October.

Nebraska football is reportedly paying Colandrea $2.5 million this season. Surely, that price tag is going up, especially after the way Colandrea started the season.

With the five-for-five, Colandrea will have more one more year of eligibility.  That would be perfect for the development of Trae Taylor, who would be allowed to sit and watch for a year, instead of being forced on the field too early.

That’s the ideal situation. It’s a great thing that Nebraska is already working to make sure Anthony Colandrea is locked in for a second season.

No buzz on Ahmad Hudson

There was all this chatter about Ahmad Hudson taking a visit to Nebraska this fall. However, Bryan Munson of Husker Online quoted a source that said there hasn’t been any talk about Hudson visiting any other programs besides LSU.

There were reports about him coming to Lincoln for the Indiana game. Maybe that will still happen, but it does seem like the buzz has died down in the efforts to flip the five-star tight end. Things can always change, but it was an interesting note.

Big Ten opener

After a three-set sweep of Missouri on Wednesday, the Nebraska volleyball team opens the 2026 Big Ten schedule at home Friday against 9-3 Rutgers.

The Huskers will host Ohio State on Saturday at 8 PM. The match on Friday will be on BTN+ and Nebraska Public Media. The Ohio State match will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
