3 reasons why Nebraska football will destroy Bowling Green on Saturday

After a 49-21 win over Ohio, the Nebraska football team will be back at home this weekend against another MAC team, Bowling Green.

The Falcons, directed by second-year head coach Eddie George, who is 4-9 in 13 games, are a different team than Ohio. There are layers in the MAC like the Big Ten, and this Bowling Green squad is looking to climb its way to bowl eligibility, whereas Ohio is a team that could compete for the conference title.

Bowling Green hasn’t won more than seven games in over a decade. They haven’t ended a season ranked in the top 25 since Urban Meyer was the head coach.

The Huskers are 28.5-point favorites, which honestly seems a little light based on this matchup, and the fact that Tarleton State rolled up 464 yards of total offense should have Nebraska licking its chops.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game, here are three reasons why the Huskers will win in blowout fashion, covering the spread for the second straight week.

Nebraska football will run wild

Bowling Green allowed 7.8 yards per rushing attempt last week as they surrendered 258 yards on the ground to an FCS program. That should have the Nebraska running backs excited for this game. The offensive line, too.

Matt Rhule challenged his offensive line to play better. Nebraska needs to get off to a better start this week. That should be the focus. Jamal Rule looked like a dude who could rush for 1,000 yards. Rule and Mekhi Nelson both went over 120 total yards.

I’d expect a similar effort this week. Isaiah Mozee should get more carries, but expect another 100-yard game from Jamal Rule and at least another 250 rushing yards as a team after getting 248 with 5.8 yards per carry last week.

A one-dimensional offense

Bowling Green QB Jay Kastantin completed 24 of 30 passes for 262 yards. He was the first Falcons QB to throw for over 250 yards in a year. However, the rushing offense was terrible. Bowling Green averaged just 2.8 yards per attempt.

Kastantin can scramble. He had 17 yards on nine runs last week, but some of those were sacks. The Nebraska pass rush should be able to tee off. If the Huskers can stop the run, it will be tough for Bowling Green to throw the ball on the Nebraska secondary, at least with the starters on the field.

Anthony Colandrea will have a field day

Bowling Green only had one sack in the season opener. The Falcons allowed 205 passing yards, but also a 66 percent completion percentage and two touchdowns.

Flat out, the Falcons can’t match up. Colandrea should be close to throwing for 300 yards again, although he might be out of the game earlier this week. At least he should be.

500 total yards of offense should be the expectation. Anything short of that and 40 points would be a major disappointment. Not only will the Huskers cover the spread, they should win this game by 40.
