New offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen talked this week about finding a player who he thinks can help the offense — one that we can assume wasn’t playing before.
It seems like 6-foot-5, 205-pound freshman wide receiver Quinn Clark is the guy that Holgorsen was talking about this week. We’ll see.
Clark wasn’t listed on the depth chart but it’s an open secret now. The freshman from Bozeman, Montana, has only played in one game so far this season.
However, his athleticism jumps out at you. He earned a scholarship offer in the summer of 2023 by having an impressive camp. Rhule personally offered him and the wide receiver could certainly help the Huskers take the top off the defense — something they have struggled to do. He’s also a former state champion high jumper.
Nebraska football defense could get a boost too
When Matt Rhule met with the media on Thursday, he also talked about how some young players in the secondary would need to step up. That’s after announcing that Tommi Hill would miss the rest of the season.
Malcolm Hartzog will start opposite Ceyair Wright on the other side of the field, but Jeremiah Charles, Mario Buford, and maybe even someone like Caleb Benning could see some time on the field. Others too.
It will be interesting to see how the Badgers attack the Huskers. I’d expect a heavy dose of rushing attempts. Nebraska allowed 139 yards rushing or more in three of the past four games. USC had 182 last week so it’s been a weakness. That’s why Hartzog and Marques Buford make sense.
They aren’t the best in coverage but this game is going to require the defensive backs to tackle. However, as Rhule said, some others will need to step up. Maybe another running back will get a chance or something will be designed for Carter Nelson.
It’s time to pull out all the stops. Wisconsin is a must-win game and if there are young players who can help Nebraska football win, it’s time to play them.
