Nebraska football

Nebraska football wrapped up the third week of fall camp with a scrimmage on Saturday. It’s been a productive few weeks for the Huskers, who have relatively few roster questions.

There are a few ongoing position battles, such as at offensive tackle, linebacker, and cornerback. You could argue the defensive line, too, but all of those players on defense will play whether they start or not.

Elijah Pritchett and Gunnar Gottula have been waging an interesting battle at left tackle. Both players started last season — Pritchett for Alabama — so the Huskers can’t really go wrong.

Nebraska was hoping to upgrade from Gottula, but he hasn’t made that easy, which is what you want to see. Don’t be surprised if he starts the game against Cincinnati. Teddy Prochazka feels like the starter on at tackle.

After that, you have the pecking order established at wide receiver. Running back is the same way. Maybe Carter Nelson emerges at tight end, but for the most part, outside of starting kicker, we know who will be on the field.

That’s a positive thing. There are very few question marks.

National folks drinking Nebraska football Kool-Aid

Josh Pate put together his 2025-26 College Football Playoff projection, and he’s got the Huskers making the field as the No. 11 seed. ESPN’s bowl projections see it differently, as ESPN projects Nebraska to go to the Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 31 to take on Utah.

That would probably reflect an 8-9 win season, which would still be an improvement.

Huskers just getting started in 2027

Last Friday, the Huskers landed five-star safety Tory Pittman, who is ranked No. 1 at his position in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s ranked 16th overall. The Omaha prospect also joins Trae Taylor, who is ranked 65th overall, as a commitment in Nebraska’s 2027 class.

It could be a game-changing class, and Nebraska is in the mix for some other elite prospects like Ahmad Huston (TE), Kennedy Brown (OT), Albert Simien (DL), and Juju Johnson (CB), among several others.

If Nebraska football can win this fall, this program can start recruiting well enough to be a consistent playoff contender.

Match week for volleyball

After a win by the 2025 team in the Alumni Match on Saturday, the Nebraska volleyball team will open the season in a matchup of top-3 teams against Pittsburgh on Friday. The Panthers have made the Final Four in four straight seasons. They also lost to Dani Busboom-Kelly’s Louisville squad in the national semifinals in 2024.

It’s not a national title rematch, but Nebraska and Pittsburgh met in the 2023 Final Four, and starting the season with two Final Four teams from 2024 is as good as it gets.

The match is in Lincoln and will be on Fox (6 p.m. CST).
