Nebraska football will have yet another night game on their 2024 schedule, as their contest with Iowa will be moved to 7:30 ET on NBC. Thus was reported by Matt Fortuna
Night games are becoming a theme for Nebraska football in 2024. They will have two in September alone, against Colorado at 7:30 ET on September 7, and against Illinois on September 20 at 8:00 PM ET.
This game will certainly have a bit more flair to it, as both Iowa and Nebraska will play for the Heroes Trophy. This series has been even over the past couple of seasons. Nebraska football won in 2022 by a 24-17 score, while Iowa bested Nebraska in Lincoln last year by a 13-10 margin.
The games have been extremely close over the past couple seasons. 2017 was the last time the game was decided by more than a touchdown. Iowa rolled Nebraska in that one by a 56-14 margin. Nebraska leads the all-time series by a 30-21-3 margin.
Nebraska football continues to get national attention
Many fans are not excited about the prospect of night games. Even still, playing against Iowa under the lights certainly has a nice ring to it. These two teams have played each other incredibly hard over the past couple years, and this game may have extra meaning should Nebraska be in contention for a bowl game or possibly more.
In any event, playing these primetime games gives Nebraska the opportunity to showcase their program on a bigger scale. This undoubtedly helps with recruiting, especially considering how crowded the Big Ten is going to get. It’s also important to remember that Nebraska is still very much a national brand, despite the lack of success in recent seasons. Eyeballs will be on this game from both fan bases.
This is going to be a fun game, as it always is against Iowa. Here’s to hoping for a second win in three seasons.
