Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook has a new contract. He signed a contract that runs through January 31, 2029, on Tuesday afternoon. This was announced by the Nebraska twitter account.

The contract is worth $825,000 starting June 1, and he will also receive a retention bonus of $70,000 on July 1.

This new contract is certainly worth it, especially given Cook’s continued success with the program last season. He coached program to a 33-2 final record and they were able to make the NCAA finals. They won the Big Ten championship and Cook was honored as the AVCA National Coach of the Year as well as the Big Ten Coach of the Year.

Looking at her from the bigger picture, he has led Nebraska to four NCAA championships, 11 NCAA semifinal appearances, nine Big 12 titles, and four Big Ten titles. He has a remarkable record of 689-100, and he was inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame in 2017.

This is the first major contract move under Nebraska athletic director Troy Dannen.

It’s also a well-deserved move.  Cook has been the absolute hallmark of success in college volleyball, and he has set a program standard that will likely never be topped. More than a coach, he has become an ambassador for the University, and a larger-than-life, yet humble, figure in the athletic department.

Nebraska Volleyball continues athletic trend

We are entering an era of Husker athletics that are predicated on stability. Men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg and women’s basketball coach Amy Williams both received extensions earlier in the spring.

As the old saying goes “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.” Nebraska did the right thing by extending him, as the volleyball program continues to compete at an elite level. This type of consistency in modern-day athletics is both admirable and rare. If any coach deserves an extension, it’s him.
