Nebraska football ‘will target’ running back in spring transfer window

Nebraska football is a little thin at the running back position and one report says the Huskers will target a running back in the spring.

At one point, three different Nebraska football running backs entered the transfer portal. Emmett Johnson decided to return and he’s the projected starter going into the 2025 season, but the Huskers are still thin at running back.

Outside of Johnson, there isn’t a player on the roster, outside of Heinrich Haarberg, who has 100 career carries. Johnson leads the way among returning players with 113 carries last season. After that, Haarberg is second with 25 followed by Jacory Barney with 10.

That’s if you don’t count the 50 rushing attempts by Dylan Raiola, although many of those were sacks or kneel-downs. Kwinten Ives and Mekhi Nelson — two backs who will compete for the No. 2 job –had just seven combined carries last season.

That doesn’t mean they can’t produce in bigger roles next season. They are just unproven. Nebraska football also has four-star running back Jamarion Parker coming in, along with Connor Booth, a record-breaking high school running back who dominated at a lower level of competition.

Nebraska will target a spring running back according to a report

I’m really high on Parker and Booth. But it feels like another experienced back is needed and according to Pete Nakos of On3.com, Nebraska football “will target a complementary back” in the spring transfer portal window.

Nakos also reported that Nebraska will seek another defensive lineman. They could use a nose tackle type to replace Nash Humacher. Offensive tackle is the other need. The Huskers could be upgrading the offensive on Tuesday if they land a commitment from Notre Dame transfer Rocco Spindler, but Nebraska could still use another tackle, even if it’s just for depth.
