Nebraska football is making 2025 four-star quarterback TJ Lateef feel like a priority.
Lateef is the 16th overall quarterback in the 2025 class, and the 22nd overall player in his class from the state of California per the 247Sports composite rankings. His offer sheet is extensive, with 15 in total. On the Nebraska front, he is being recruited by quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas.
There is little doubt about his skill. He was a dynamic quarterback for Orange Lutheran High school. Lateef tallied 1,965 yards, 13 touchdowns, and seven interceptions last season. He also had a dual-threat ability to his game rushing for 230 yards and five touchdowns.
The 2023 season was not a flash in the pan. Rather, it was a continuation of stellar play from the previous season. 2022 saw him tally 2,446 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He ran for 150 yards as well, according to his profile on 247Sports.
Lateef fits the profile of what Nebraska football is looking for in a quarterback. Arm strength and pocket presence are two of his biggest assets. Lateef is able to set his feet and deliver both intermediate and deep throws. He also goes through his progressions quickly, and that allows him to deliver accurate passes and time with his wide receivers.
In previous years, Nebraska football would have wanted a run-first quarterback. However, now they are looking at quarterbacks like Lateef who have strong pocket presence and can get the ball down the field. They have also been able to build accordingly, with a strong group of offensive linemen and several speedy receivers.
Nebraska football making Lateef a priority
The quarterback is set to come for a visit on Saturday, during Nebraska’s Red-White game. This is certainly good news for Nebraska football. Lateef told On3’s Chad Simmons earlier this week that Nebraska football is recruiting him pretty hard. He feels good about where he stands with Nebraska, and they are making him feel like a priority recruit.
This is certainly excellent news, as Nebraska is looking for quarterback options beyond Dylan Raiola and Daniel Kaelin. The program needs to keep the quarterback room stocked, as both of the aforementioned quarterbacks probably won’t be staying all four years in Lincoln.
Nebraska football certainly has some competition for Lateef. Nevertheless, it’s hard not to feel optimistic at least about where they stand in his recruitment. This Saturday will give the program a chance to make another good impression. The program doesn’t necessarily need a quarterback right now, but it would be ideal to gain traction with future ones. Lateef is certainly a viable target, and a recruitment to monitor closely.
