Nebraska football quarterback Dylan Raiola flashed his potential this spring but the exciting thing is that Raiola and others said Friday that he has improved since then.

Raiola said to the local media he “absolutely” notices a difference in his own game from the spring. Quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas said, “There’s a comfort level that continues to improve.”

It was clear that taking care of the football is a priority for the Nebraska football quarterbacks, as it should be after the Huskers led college football in turnovers by the position.

“You can’t win games turning the ball over,” Raiola said.

The former five-star quarterback also talked about the trust he has developed with his receivers and tight ends, which only comes with a bunch of reps. Yet, there were reports that Raiola rented out an Air BnB this summer (and paid the bill) to get more time with his receivers. We also know he took out the entire offensive line for pizza and paid the bill multiple times.

Raiola also said he thinks the tight ends and receivers are a “special group.” And on that point, it’s hard to argue. It’s one of the best groups I’ve ever seen a Nebraska football team have and with the most talented passer (raw ability), maybe in program history, the sky is the limit for the offense.

While Thomas didn’t talk about the timeline of naming a starter, it doesn’t take much reading between the lines to see that Raiola is QB1. Heinrich Haarberg also met with the media on Friday, along with offensive line coach Donovan Raiola, Dylan’s uncle, and Daniel Kaelin.

Kaelin, another promising freshman quarterback talked about his own improvement and said the QB competition has reached a “whole new level.” Haarberg is also working in the QB room, it sounds like exclusively, which is a good thing in my opinion.

The backup job is important and right now, Haarberg feels like QB2.
