Nebraska football didn’t get a win on the field Saturday against Ohio State, but the Huskers appear to be closing in on a big win on the recruiting trail.

Chase Loftin is a 6-foot-6, 215-pound tight end from Omaha. He’s also ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the state of Nebraska and is No. 356 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2025 class.

Loftin committed to Florida State in late June after a national recruitment. Nebraska football was a major player and hosted Loftin for numerous visits, including an official visit over the summer.

Texas A&M and Kansas State were some of the other programs in the mix. Florida State won out though, but after a 1-7 start, and a guaranteed losing season, Loftin is looking around.

Nebraska football is projected to flip the blue-chip recruit

You wonder if Mike Norvell is going to survive this season at Florida State. What if they go 2-10? That will be hard for Florida State to stomach, especially with all the talent on that roster.

It was reported by Greg Smith of Rivals on Sunday that Loftin was going to visit Nebraska football for the UCLA game next Saturday. I said at the time that Loftin was likely to flip. He knows what a visit to Nebraska means, especially at this point in the process.

On that note, Steve Wiltfong of On3.com, put in a Fong Bomb for the four-star tight end to flip to the Huskers. If it happens, it would be the ninth four-star recruit committed as part of the 2025 class.

It would also correct the wrong of missing out on the No. 2 overall recruit in the state. We’ll see if a commitment happens this weekend, but it feels like it’s heading in that direction.
