It’s Nebraska football’s bye week, but when it comes to college football recruiting, there is no such thing as a week off.
The Huskers are fresh off a win over Rutgers. Not only was it an important win for the 2024 Nebraska football season, but there were some important visitors on campus.
Nebraska even landed its second 2026 commitment from a three-star wideout one day after the win. That’s one week after the commitment of three-star quarterback Dayton Raiola. He was unranked when he committed to Nebraska football but has jumped inside the top 600 of the 247 Sports composite rankings.
That tells you that the evaluators saw what Nebraska saw. Raiola doesn’t have any other power-4 offers. He didn’t at the time of his commitment, but who cares? The kid is proving he’s a power-4 quarterback at Buford (Georgia). The Huskers just always had the inside track.
On the whole, though, Nebraska football has been playing from behind when it comes to quarterback recruiting. It has a different timetable and Dayton Raiola sort of saved the Huskers’ bacon, just like TJ Lateef did in 2025.
Nebraska football makes a move with 2027 QB Trae Taylor
It’s not like you can’t find quality quarterbacks later on, but the best of the best come off the board soon and Nebraska needs to get involved sooner. Last Saturday, the Huskers offered 2027 quarterback Trae Taylor.
Taylor already has 22 offers and has taken 44 visits. He’s visited programs like Michigan and Notre Dame upwards of six times. Yet, the trip to Lincoln was the first for the 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback.
That’s a sign that Nebraska needs to get in earlier on quarterbacks — they should be targeting 2028 quarterbacks already.
That being said, the Huskers have landed Dylan Raiola, Daniel Kaelin, Lateef, and Dayton Raiola in succession so what they’re doing has been working. However, three of those commitment had strong ties to the program already and grew up as fans.
I’m not sure that’s a dynamic Nebraska will be able to keep counting on in the future.
Taylor said his visit for the Nebraska win over Rutgers was a “10 out of 10” according to what he told Husker Max. The unranked prospect (for now is a 4-star via Rivals) is also expected to visit again. There is a lot of work to do, but that’s a huge positive.
Now, just imagine if Nebraska had offered Taylor six months ago and hosted him for 3-4 visits already. Then where would the Huskers stand in his recruitment?
