Nebraska football gets votes in Coaches poll, will face 3 ranked teams

Nebraska football used to be a mainstay in the Coaches College Football Preseason Poll but the Huskers will have to settle for receiving two votes in the 2024 preseason poll which was released on Monday.

Georgia was the No. 1 ranked team in college football according to The US LBM Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs got 45 of the first-place votes. Ohio State is second, followed by Oregon third.

Michigan and Penn State are ranked eighth and ninth in the poll, while USC (24th) and Iowa (25th) round out the poll for Big Ten teams.

Nebraska football will face three ranked opponents this season and what makes matters worse is that all three of those games are on the road starting with Ohio State. Nebraska also hosts Colorado and Wisconsin, two teams that received votes in the Coaches Poll.

As far as how many votes Nebraska received, it was only two. That’s the same as Colorado, Tulane, Texas State, and App State. That means that the Huskers are essentially tied for 46th in the preseason coaches poll.

Based on the 5-7 season last year and the fact that Nebraska hasn’t qualified for a bowl game since the 2016 season, that probably makes sense.

The Huskers need to start winning games consistently before we need to worry about where they are ranked. Beating Colorado in Week 2 would be a positive start. Nebraska football also needs to win these three games if they are going to lock up a bowl game before the final stretch of five games.
