Nebraska football flipping 4-star Chase Loftin isn’t a sure thing

Nebraska football hosted four-star tight end Chase Loftin for the UCLA game and a flip was expected but now it’s not a sure thing.

It feels like something may have shifted in the recruitment of Chase Loftin. One of the best players in the state of Nebraska — ranked second in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings — visited Nebraska football last weekend and a commitment was expected.

Several expert projections were put in, led by Steve Wiltfong of On3.com and Sean Callahan of Husker Online. Multiple crystal ball projections were even put in for Loftin to flip his commitment from Florida State.

Nebraska football target to take other visits

However, the Huskers laid an egg against the UCLA Bruins. I’m not sure that made a difference as Loftin had positive things to say about his visit afterward. Yet, the 6-foot-6, 215-pounder out of Omaha still seems undecided and is now expected to visit Missouri and Texas A&M according to a new report from Callahan.

That’s less-than-ideal news for the Huskers. Nebraska footbal should have won his commitment the first time but Florida State was able to sell him on what they were building before the Noles started 1-7.

Now, Loftin is looking around. It felt like a flip to Nebraska football would make perfect sense. All the stars felt aligned but something must have changed or led Loftin to want to take more visits.

I’m not surprised that other programs are making a push for the No. 360 overall prospect in the 2025 class. Loftin is a legit blue-chipper and that’s why the Huskers need his commitment.

Blue-chip recruits are somewhat rare in Nebraska, which is why it stings to see them leave and it would be a heartbreaker to lose Loftin, again.
