Suddenly, Nebraska football is playing defense with one of its top commitments in the 2025 recruiting class. Four-star defensive lineman Malcolm Simpson, a Nebraska Cornhuskers commitment since June, visited Texas over the weekend according to Steve Wiltfong of On3.com.
Simpson is listed at 6-foot-3, 255 pounds out of Hitchcock, Texas. Sampson is ranked No. 302 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings and he’s the second-highest-rated defender that’s committed to the Nebraska football program in 2025.
Simpson didn’t just visit this weekend either. According to Wilftong, he’s going to take another trip to see Texas which is a worrisome thought for Nebraska football. Simpson told Wiltfong he’ll be back for the Georgia game but that he’s “locked in on Nebraska” and just following “god’s plan.”
If he was locked in, you wonder why he’s taking visits but either way, Nebraska has work to do to hold onto his commitment.
Nebraska football lands commitment from Dayton Raiola
The Huskers got their first 2026 commitment on Sunday night as Dayton Raiola, the younger brother of current Nebraska football starting quarterback Dylan Raiola, committed to the Huskers.
Dayton is unranked according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s also listed at 5-foot-11, 225 pounds. The junior is in his first season starting at Buford, a powerhouse program in Georgia, but Nebraska was his only power-4 offer at the time of his commitment.
Here are more thoughts on Raiola.
More Nebraska Cornhuskers news
Nebraska basketball added to its 2025 class on Sunday with a commitment of four-star forward Quentin Rhymes. The 6-foot-6 forward out of Phoenix visited the Huskers recently and it was enough to land his commitment. Rhymes is ranked 106th overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Here’s what Eric Bossi of 247 Sports wrote about the commitment of Rhymes:
“A native of Las Vegas, Rhymes is coming off of a monster summer with the Las Vegas Knicks on the Pro16 circuit. He’s got good positional size, can shoot the ball from deep, and has a great frame to add muscle on. He already knows how to use that frame too as he regularly gets to the rim, finishes through contact, and draws trips to the free throw line where he can rack up easy points.”
Sounds like another great fit for Fred Hoiberg and for the most part, it was a great weekend for the Nebraska Cornhuskers on the recruiting trail.
